Hannibal F. Heredia has practiced family law since 1994. Since 2017, he has been named one of the Top 100 lawyers in Georgia by Atlanta Magazine. The Best Lawyers in America magazine has included him in the areas of Family Law, Family Law Mediation, and Family Law Arbitration, which is based on peer selection. Twice the magazine has named him Lawyer of the Year in the area of Family Law Mediation. Most recently, in 2026, he was recognized again by Best Lawyers in Family Law, Family Law Mediation, and Family Law Arbitration, and named Lawyer of the Year for Family Law Mediation in Atlanta, one of the profession’s highest peer-reviewed honors.
Following six years at Georgia Legal Services, Hannibal became a member of Cartersville-based Perrotta, Cahn and Prieto, P.C. in 2000, where he was member of the largest northwest Georgia family law practice and later became managing partner.
Hannibal co-founded Hedgepeth & Heredia, which is now known as Hedgepeth Heredia LLC, in 2006 and remains managing partner of its practice. As well as his general family law practice, Hannibal established wide-ranging specializations within Georgia adoption and surrogacy law and regularly speaks at continuing legal education seminars on this topic.
He is regularly recognized for professional excellence: Atlanta Magazine lists him as a Super Lawyer, Georgia Trend listed him among the state’s “Legal Elite” of Family Lawyers, and Avvo rates him “10.0 – Superb.”
Hannibal has also been deeply engaged in service to the legal profession. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Bar Association’s Family Section; past president of the Cartersville-Bartow County Bar Association; Master of the Charles Longstreet Weltner Family Law Inns of Court; and Barrister of the Bleckley Inns of Court. He was also a Regional Coordinator, judge, and judge’s evaluator for the High School Mock Trial Program of the State Bar of Georgia. He is presently a member of the Atlanta Bar Foundation Board as a Treasurer, assisting in the funding of pro bono projects and youth projects through the annual “End of Summer Party” (formerly known as Law Jam).
Committed to giving back, Hannibal volunteers at the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation as a pro bono advocate on behalf of victims of domestic violence and as a Guardian Ad Litem. The Supreme Court of Georgia has also selected him to mentor newly admitted attorneys as part of its Transition into Law Practice Program.
A graduate of Auburn University, Hannibal earned his JD from Southwestern University in 1993, cum laude, where he was Editor in Chief of the Southwestern University Law Review. He is licensed to practice before the State Bar of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia and the United States District Court.
Apart from his practice, Hannibal remains a very active member of the All Saints Episcopal Church where he serves as an usher and volunteers extensively within his community. In his free time, he enjoys writing, recording, and performing music, attending live shows, and exploring music documentaries.
